What is plastic injection mold?

Plastic injection mold, is also known as injection molding, is a tool for producing plastic products. It is also a tool for giveing the plastic products complete structure and precise dimensions. Injection molding is a processing method used in the mass production of products with certain complex shapes. Specifically refer to the material melted by heat is injected into the mold cavity by high pressure, and after cooling and solidifying, the molded product is obtained.
The plastic injection molding process can be roughly divided into the following 6 stages: mold clamping, injection, pressure keeping, cooling, mold opening, and molded parts removal.

Plastic injection molds are important process equipment for the production of various plastic injection molded parts. With the rapid development of plastics industry and the promotion and application of plastic products in the aviation, aerospace, electronics, machinery, marine and automotive industries, the requirement for molds is also gradually higher and higher. Traditional mold design methods can no longer meet today's requirements. Compared with the traditional mold design, computer-aided engineering (CAE) technology have great advantages on both improving productivity, ensuring product quality and reducing cost, reducing labor intensity.

During the processing of plastic injection molds, various kinds of numerical control machining are used. The most widely used are CNC milling machining centers. In mold CNC machining, the applications of CNC wire cutting and CNC EDM are also very common. Wire cutting is mainly used in various straight wall mold processing, such as bump mold in punching processing, insert block and slide block in injection mold, electrode for EDM and so on. For mold parts with high hardness, this machining methods cannot be used to process them. Most of them use EDM, and EDM is also used for sharp corners, deep cavity parts, and narrow grooves of mold cavities. The CNC lathes are mainly used for machining standard parts of mold rods, and mold cavities or cores of revolving bodies, such as plastic injection molds for bottles and pots, and forging molds for shafts and disks. In the mold processing, the application of CNC drilling can also play a role in improving the processing accuracy and shorten the processing cycle.
